It stretches more than 4,050 square miles (~10.600 square kilometers), and its altitude varies between 11,800 feet (3.600 meters) and 16,400 feet (5.000 meters), thus making it a hard-to-reach destination for unacclimatized travelers. Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia is the world’s largest salt flat and is considered one of the most extreme and remarkable sights in all of South America.
